Summary
The process Data Storytelling followed when hired by NJVOAD, a supporting nonprofit which serves all of New Jersey, to align their goals with their language and strategy.
A state-wide nonprofit looking to evolve into a supporting nonprofit using data inspired strategy.
Over the course of six months, we gathered the results from their previous programs, specialty projects and collaborative outreach into a centralized narrative.
Together, we validated their institutional knowledge and analyzed their digital footprint. This information baseline enabled research and strategy development to be focused and relevant to their goal of being a supporting-nonprofit.
Problem
Leadership recognized that the nonprofits in their communities needed more support with everyday disasters. They saw that their communities needed more than reactive support; communities thrive with consistent support.
They observed some community groups were growing rapidly and becoming very visible, while others were stable but remained quiet and status quo.
Seeking to improve their community level conversations, support engagement and develop a new approach, NJVOAD contacted Data Storytelling to achieve these goals.
Solution
Deep-dive conversations occurred in an effort to develop a new model. Analysis was done on their newsletter outcomes, and social media engagement. Adding to this knowledge, Data Storytelling conducted research and data analysis for the counties they serve using state and third-party data.
At the end of the project, NJVOAD received a findings document outlining what was working and not working, as well as detailed summary of recommendations to meet their community goals.
